This spring, FaithBaptistChurch made a commitment to serve in some local mission capacity as opposed to looking for those "far off" mission trips that sometimes become spring break tradition. As a result, we promoted an "I Break for Missions" week during Spring Break that included a North Texas and South Texas element. Our South Texas element took a group to Huffman, Texas to help a small church rebuild from the hurricane damage they had suffered. Our North Texas element involved five days of different service opportunities in the city. Our desire was to demonstrate God's love by making ourselves available to serve others in a selfless manner.
We were fully aware of the significant role the Food Bank plays in our local community and the tremendous impact it has on providing food to those in need and to the organizations in the county who serve those who consistently live with hunger as a part of their lives. We had no difficulty in having a good group of individuals volunteer to spend one of their spring break days at the Food Bank. Serving those in our community by serving the Food Bank was the right thing to do. Additionally, it was our goal that we would help begin a relationship between individuals from Faith Baptist and the Food Bank which would result in folks taking the initiative to volunteer regularly at the Food Bank outside of church initiated activities.
We felt the day was hugely successful from our standpoint in that our crew felt;
a) they did help make a difference,
b) they recognized they can do this whenever they want, and
c) they can encourage others to become involved because they now know first-hand what it takes.
The day was incredibly enjoyable for our team. The bonds which were formed across our many age groups who volunteered was a real unexpected benefit for us as a church family. We are so thankful for Mary, Michelle, and all of the folks at the Food Bank who serve daily and we remain grateful for the opportunity we had to come and serve. The Food Bank was part of a wonderful week we had as a church family in discovering the joy of serving others.
The WFAFB were so glad to have everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules to help us out. We hope that everyone had a great time, and will come back again to help.
Those who open their hearts and lend helping hands that truly make a great impact on our community.
Thank you to the FaithBaptistChurch for all of your help!
