After the Rain
Contributed by: Beverly McClure on 8/23/2008

The recent rainfall brought flooding to many areas, causing families to flee their homes. My prayers go out to the men and women who are now rebuilding their lives.

As bad as the flooding was, the rain also brought beauty to some areas. Have you noticed the tall, slender flowers withsix petal white blossoms? These are Rain Lilies, also called Prairie Lilies or Field Lilies. They sprout following heavy rains. The flowers open in the evening and turn pink as they wither the next day.
They multiply by seed and by bulbs.

I've added pictures of some other flowers that I found blooming on a walk through our pasture. Enjoy.

The wild flowers are so lovely, and the lilies amaze me that they just sprout up over night.

Annie was quite delighted to find a rain lily standing by the curb in our yard the other morning. I had never heard the term before your post. Thanks for sharing!
