Celebrating A New Beginning!
Contributed by: Gabriela Nesbitt on 4/20/2009

Christian Women's Job Corps Wichita-Archer-Clay Christian Women's Job Corps (WAC CWJC) vision is for women to be self-sufficient, fulfilling their God-given potential. Our mission is to help dependant and impoverished women to move toward self-sufficiency as they learn basic life and job skills in a safe, Christian environment.

Christian Women's Job Corps in Wichita Falls has started their eight-year in ministry since its conception in 2002. Since then we have service 115 women. Seventy have received better paying jobs with benefits. Thirty have received their GED or moved on to higher education. We have accomplished a eighty-seven-success rate. Even thou the economy is not looking good for some nonprofit organizations CWJC is successfully moving forward with the favor of God. The number of women in our program is rapidly growing and we are thankful to faithful churches, individual donors, Board of Directors and Foundations such as Alcoa Foundation, McCoy Foundation, and The Little League of Wichita Falls have been a big part of this organization. On April 4th CWJC and First Baptist of Wichita Falls partnered on a Tea Party/Silent Fundraiser. One hundred percent of these proceeds went to CWJC. Thank you to the many churches and agencies that supported this fundraiser event and because of your generous giving to support our mission we raised $7000. Please visit our website www.cwjcwichita.org to see the beautiful display of tables.

Many women who are in poverty or have lower incomes often lack self-confidence, life skills, education, support system, and practical resources such as childcare and transportation. CWJC program provides lower income households with skills that will help them break the cycle of poverty. CWJC offers an opportunity for women eighteen years and older to build self confidence, increase skills and make more informed decisions to facilitate positive change in their lives. CWJC provides training in a fourteen week period in the field of literacy, vocational and technical training. A general overview of the lessons include Bible Study, Money Management, Recovery Ministries, Career/Job Preparations, Boundaries, Stress/Anger Management, Scrap Booking, Parenting, Individual Development courses, Computers, Typing Classes and GED courses. At the beginning of each session, the Director matches each student with a mentor. These mentors have engaged in in-depth training which prepares them to successfully support the student. The mentor and student enter into a covenant agreement identifying the goals the student has set for herself and outlining the shared responsibilities of both the student and the mentor in accomplishing these goals.

Christian Women's Job Corps spring session is due to graduate on May 8th at 6:00 pm at Floral Heights United Methodist Church (fellowship hall) located at 2214 Tenth Street. We have eleven women graduating and we encourage the community to come out and join us and hear these women's testimonies. This is a transforming life experience you do not want to miss.

Fall session starts September 1st to December 4th. We are always in need of prayer; funding, professional men and women of God Instructors, tutors (English, Math and computers). Please come by the office to fill out a volunteer application at 2301 Ninth Street or call 940-687-0601 for more information.

Thank you,
GABRIELA NESBITT
CWJC Executive Director
