Christian Women's Job Corps has just finished another successful year with the last session of the year. On December 5th family, friends, Pastors, churches and Community leaders gathered in the celebration of these fourteen remarkable women who have completed a fourteen week comprehensive program to self-sufficiency. A new life, filled with God's love and a positive support network, that will help them achieve their life and employment goals has begun. The fall graduates were Julie Addison, Heather Smok, Valeria Jackson, Linda Oster, April Elms, Nerelyn Pope, Jeanne Watts, Shelly Placencia, Cynthia Jackson Payne, Alberta Zagads, June Latricia Young, Maliyn Bradfield, (not pictured Jessie Seville and Tina Woods).
A scholarship of $1,000 was award to Cynthia Jackson Payne for outstanding leadership and team player. She will be attending American Commercial College as a full-time student in January. Linda Oster and Nerelyn Pope will also be attending this college but will only attend part-time. Heather Smoke, Valeria Jackson and April Elms will be attending Vernon College as full-time students in January. While the face of success varies with each student, all of our CWJC women make major life changes and strides toward economic independence. When a woman finds self-confidence and can make the transition from poverty or public assistance to self-sufficiency, her entire family benefits.
The 14-week spring session will start February 2nd to May 8th, Monday through Friday 9:00 to 3:00 pm. Enrollment has already started and the deadline for this session is January 30th. Applicatiions can be picked up at 2301 Ninth St.
Our goal for 2009 is to implement an additional summer session starting June 1st to August 7th. We are in the process of recruiting professional or retired men and women volunteers to teach these classes one hour a week. We need Bible Study teachers, GED preparation, Job/Preparation skills, stress/anger management, money management, boundaries, English, Computers (Excel, Word, Internet), and crafts. For more information on the summer program please call Gabriela Nesbitt Executive Director at 687-0601.
