Challenge Matching Grant $10,000
Contributed by: Gabriela Nesbitt on 6/20/2008

Christian Women's Job Corps
Wichita-Archer-Clay Christian Women's Job Corps (WAC CWJC) seeks to help poverty stricken women move from dependence to self-sufficiency through a ministry of women helping women. Our vision is for women to be self-sufficient, fulfilling their God-given potential.

Many women who are in poverty or have lower incomes often lack self-confidence, life skills, education, support system, and practical resources such as childcare and transportation. CWJC program provides lower income households in the Wichita-Archer-Clay Counties (WAC) with skills which will help them break the cycle of poverty. CWJC offers an opportunity for women eighteen years and older to build self confidence, increase skills and make more informed decisions to facilitate positive change in their lives. This is accomplished via a fourteen-week comprehensive training program offering life skills sessions (self-esteem, goal setting, health and wellness, financial management, parenting, individual development course), job search techniques/career exploration, basic education in Math and English, computer instruction, and Bible study. At the beginning of each session, the Site Director prayerfully matches each student with a mentor. These mentors have engaged in in-depth training which prepares them to successfully support the student. The mentor and student enter into a covenant agreement identifying the goals the student has set for herself and outlining the shared responsibilities of both the student and the mentor in accomplishing these goals.

CWJC provides help and bridges service gaps for an underserved population of women seeking a better way of life by offering this free program. Each student has access to textbooks, classroom supplies, and computers with software equipment. To remove barriers from participating in the program items such as bus passes, gas vouchers, childcare while in class, some personal hygiene items, and extra food are provided when needed. We also cover the examination fee for a student who tests and passes her GED. All of these are on-going expenses for our organization.

Our next session starts Sept. 2nd to Dec 5th; Monday thru Friday; 8:30-3:00 p.m. We are located at 2301 Ninth St. Wichita Falls, TX 76301

CWJC is in the middle of their fundraising season and we have a challenge matching grant of $10,000 that needs to be meet by the end of the year. We are looking for the support of the community, friends and family to help us meet this challenge to continual this awesome ministry in Wichita Falls. Thank you for partnering with us.
