Thanks to the support of many local citizen's, the restoration of Journey's End Cemetery continues. The Chamber of Commerce has even gotten in on the act by spending a recent Saturday morning and afternoon clearing brush.
Thanks have gone out before to those who donated the fencing and labor to erect a fence on the eastern border of the cemetery. Now, thanks to local craftsman Jerry Jones, the cemetery displays a respectful sign of it's namesake. Hopefully, a placard indicating who to contact for needs will be erected soon.
Future plans include applying for and acquiring a historical marker for the cemetery at a cost of approximately $1800.00. We are hoping at some point to have the road leading up to the cemetery paved with black top. Fund raisers are being planned to this end as we speak.
We were recently approached by a national military archivist who was looking for particular family members whose DNA might be used to identify remains of an individual killed in the Korean war. Our research indicates that identifying information on this individual is buried in Journey's End.
Your group is now able to hear a historical presentation about the cemetery. If you are interested in an offering, would like to schedule a tour of the cemetery, or would like to make a donation, please contact either of the following persons. Donations can also be sent to First Bank to "Journey's End Cemetery". We thank you now for your continued interest and support.
