Virginia has been named the August Volunteer of the Month by Child Advocates, the CASA program for Archer, Clay, Montague and Wichita counties.

Trained in the spring of 2006, Virginia has served on a total of 5 cases and is currently assigned to 3, serving a total of 7 children. She says that her work with Child Advocates is "very, very satisfying". Growing up in Vernon and spending most of her adult life in the Wichita Falls area, Virginia is an example of community members reaching out to those in need.

Virginia has also volunteered with the Wichita Adult Literacy Council as a tutor, and her desire to improve the quality of life for others is evident. "All that these children need is a little attention, love, and someone who is willing to speak up for them. They seem to know that. It's very rewarding knowing that I can help them get back to a stable life."

Child Advocates is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower volunteers to be the voice in court for abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to be the Guardian ad Litem for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.
