PowerPak 4 Kids

We have all seen pictures of children in third world countries who are hungry, but did you know there are countless children right here in our own community who are going hungry on the weekend? The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank has started a "pilot program" that will help to end this problem. It is called PowerPak4 Kids and is currently in Henrietta, Holliday, and Petrolia Elementary Schools. We also have other backpack programs in Bowie, Nocona, and Saint Jo. The PowerPak 4 Kids program is a backpack program that provides nutritious and easy to prepare foods for the weekend to children who might otherwise not have anything to eat.
We currently have 481 who are being given backpacks on Friday afternoon. That is a lot of hungry children, but that is just a small portion of the children who are in our community. The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank serves 13 counties and 50% of the children enrolled in school are classified as economically disadvantaged. We want to expand the program to include schools in Wichita Falls and the surrounding counties, but we need your help in accomplishing this goal. Currently, the program costs approimately $136 to feed one child for the school year. We would like to ask you to sponsor one child or a group of children with a monthly donation. If you feel you could help with this project, please send your check to the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank and mark it PowerPak 4 Kids.

This sounds like a worthwhile and neded project. I wish you much success. Are there any other means of service that a group can offer? I'm thinking of my church youth who don't have any money but we are trying to instill a volunteer spirit. We are currently making our summer plans. If there is something they can do, will you contact me? thanks, Pamela
