Blog Entry 3 of 4 Scrapbooking Mom of Wichita Falls
I guess I will begin with an introduction. My name is Mary Cluley. I have been a full time PE teacher for the past 15 years. It is the most awesome job and each day gets better. I love being around the children and they invigorate me! As a second job, to put three children through college, I am a Creative Memories consultant. What I do is teach people how to take all of their photos, whether on the computer in "cyberspace" or in drawers or under beds...and preserve them in scrapbook albums. I have been doing this for 5 years now, and I also love it more each day. My purpose in having this blog is to encourage you to "do something" with your precious family photos. Preserve them. Write about them. Write about your love for your family next to them. So many people have told me that inherited bags/boxes of photos from family and no one knows who they are! If you are crafty, great! If not, you will be like me....not a crafty bone in my body but I do this because I want my children to know how much I love them. I do this simply, as I do not have a lot of time to spend hours on each page. Mainly, I showcase my family photos, and write about how much I love my children. It's a legacy of love I am passing down. I'll be talking about a lot of aspects of scrapbooking. I'd be happy for you to contact me with any questions. I will do my best to help you in any way that I can.

I always got C's in art - I could never do this!

When I was first introduced to album making, which was much by accident, I was fairly negative about the whole thing. The left part of my brain kept telling me, "You could NEVER do this....you always got C's in art and never liked it." Or, "Mary, you have NEVER been a 'craft-type' person."Yes, the 'ole brain was right on that one! Things like that were boring to me.

In my heart, however, I knew I was doing my three children a disservice. We were an Air Force family who lived all over the world, and their pictures were a disorganized mess. So I knew I HAD to do it. For them.

So, have I convinced you yet? I hope you have decided to make a scrapbook album for one of your children.

"How" do YOU do it? Very Simply. The first thing to do is choose an album. When you look in stores around town, you will see the "post bound" type. It is like metal screws. The pages are held in place by about 1/8th inch of plastic. It is only a matter of time before the rip. May I humbly suggest that you take a look at the Creative Memories album? All of my albums are this kind. Why? There is a lifetime guarantee. When I do my children's albums, I do not want them falling apart next year, when I have jounalled my heart out to them. The albums have a metal strip which holds the pages in. The quality is second to none.

Open the album, and on the first page, put a fabulous photo on it...I like 8 x 10's for the first page, and then the child's name, in sticky letters. I put, "My Precious Amy." She loves it. I love it. For adhesive, I use the "photo safe" Creative Memories tape runner is 100% safe for your photos. Youjust roll it on 4 corners and then put your photo on your page. It is that simple, and the page is done. The first page of your "legacy of love."

A few years ago, I took a deep breath, got out the box of photographs, and made scrapbooks for my sons and the older grandchildren. The first page says "This is your life [name]. Then I put in pictures from baby to school and graduation and so on. I gave them as Christmas gifts one year, and they really did like them. I'm still working on books for the youngest grands. Someday, they will be so glad we did it for them.
