River Bend Rocks! kicks off Thursday

Everyone within reading distance of YourHub is invited out to River Bend Nature Center Thursday evening for the first in what we hope will be a continuing series of live outdoor concerts. Featured band for this first River Bend Rocks! event is the Falls' own Exit Strategy.

Gates open at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, and Exit Strategy will play until around 8:30 p.m. We will not be charging admission for this event, however, cash donations of any size are hardly ever refused. All proceeds will go toward River Bend's operating costs.

This is a family-type event, so a few ground rules will be in order. River Bend is a tobacco-, drug- and alcohol-free zone at all times. Anyone seen using tobacco products or with alcoholic beverages will politely beasked to leave. Anyone seen with drugs will be refered to our many friends at the police station.

Seating is limited to a few picnic tables, so bring your own lawn chairs. Coolers are okay, as well. Just remember that iced tea and soft drinks are good to go, but leave the Bud Light at home, please.

The Ruby N. Priddy Nature Conservatory normally is not open after 4 p.m. Butterflies, like chickens, tend to go to roost at dusk and are not active in the evening. However, that is not to say we could not be coaxed into allowing visits inside the Conservatory for a donation of at least $5.

So y'all come on out Tursday evening and enjoy! If community response is good enough, we will host other live concerts in the River Bend Rocks! series. Don't know where we are? Give us a call at 767-0843 and we'll tell you how to get here!

Thanks, Penny. I really enjoyed covering the Water Garden Society for you last month. They're a fantastic bunch of folks, so I know you'll have a great evening.

Jim, let us know how it goes. I'll be talking about hummingbirds to the Water Garden Society that night, but think this is a good way to get some folks out to River Bend who otherwise might not take the plubge. Once they see what a great place it is, they'll be back during the day. Hopefully, this will also be a way to raise some much-needed funds for this great organization as well.
