All over but the shouting
Contributed by: Jim Miller   on 12/14/2008

I suppose by now I should be used to seventy-degree weather in mid-December. And while today is considerably warmer than the past few these couple of weeks, we have dodged so far the body and brain numbing cold and freezing rain so typical of blue northers rolling across the rolling plains.

We certainly appreciate the mild winter weather at River Bend. The weekend crowds for ElectriCritters have been the largest in the seven-year history of the event. You know it's a good night when some volunteer has to make a mad dash to Santa's regional warehouse for more graham crackers and chocolate bars!

ElectriCritters runs for one final weekend, Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The cost is still $4 ($3 at the Gift Shop daily until 2 p.m. Thursday) for visitors older than two years, and we have plenty of marshmallows stockpiled for roasting over the open fire. The Clauses will make one final commute to the Falls for one last meet-and-greet before the Big Night.

Our local storytellers will be spinning yarns of a literary nature in the newly-opened Bryant Edwards Learning Center. And where else in the Falls can you purchase a pack of elephant or panda poop paper for that eleventh-hour Secret Santa gift!?!

Yes, staff members and volunteers alike will be relieved to throw the final switch on the seventh edition of ElectriCritters. We love doing it, yet we're always ready for it to end. After a couple or three months to recuperate, we'll start planning for 'Critters 2009.

Speaking of endings, I am retiring this particular blog. Some months ago I started Rolling Plains Journal on another blog site--rollingplainsjournal.blogspot.com--and have since learned the difficulties of serving two masters. So I am restricting my nature-related writing to the other site.

I am not, however, severing my connection to YourHub. I will be launching a revised version as soon as I figure out what that version might look like. The new blog will not be associated with my work at River Bend and will, therefore, allow a greater latitude to comment on a variety of issues. Besides, SOMEone has to hang around and referee in the battles of the two Marks!

May all your Christmas wishes be granted, and may the coming year bring much joy and prosperity to all, whether you read me or not!!!

Oh! I should actually READ the titles to these blogs more carefully. I thought this one said All Over but the SHOOTING! I was concerned after reading a couple of other blogs that I had missed more than just differences of opinions. Blessings to you and yours--and even to the SHOUTING. LOL

Your secret Santa gifts sound perfect for the person who has everything. LOL. I visit your other blog from time to time, but am glad you'll still be here too. I have so many I can't keep up with them. Do they have an organization for Blogaholics? Merry Christmas to you and Annie.

Merry Christmas, Jim. But I still think you might be a brick...or two...shy of a load at times.
