Sex, STDs & Drop-out Rates - 2 will Do
Contributed by: Charles Paul Stephens on 8/7/2008

So, what does our education tax dollars really go for these days:

" A recent study conducted by Scholly, Katz, Gascoigne and Holck on under graduates at four diverse universities showed that 80 percent of participants had at least one sexual partner during the preceding year. Although sexual education courses have been integrated into the health curriculums of most high schools and methods of birth control are becoming readily available to young adults, the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases on college campuses is steadily increasing. According to Health Services at Columbia University, 20-25 percent of college students across the country have either been infected with an STD or transmitted an STD to their sexual partners. Two thirds of all individuals with STDs are under the age of 25."

Then of course, we have those who borrow $1000s and never even finish college:

NEW YORK - For decades, getting more students into college has been the top priority of America's higher education leaders. But what's the point, a growing number of experts are wondering, when so few who go to school finish a degree? Just 54 percent of students entering four-year colleges in 1997 had a degree six years later (2006)

I am not against higher education, I am against the propanganda being spread across Amercia that everyone needs one just to get a good job - that's not true! Possibly, we have employers who are discriminated on the basis of education and if so, maybe the ACLU should leave Christians alone for a little whole and protect these Americans who are being denied jobs or promations due to education.

Over 30% of college students leave after the first year and almost 50% never graduate, according to the Department of Education. According to the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education: 1/2 of all entering freshman borrow funds, 1/5 of those who borrow drop out and those who drop out are twice as likely to be unemployed as borrowers who received a degree and more than ten times as likely to default on their loans. The average student seeking a four-year degree takes on significant debt, totaling more than $15,000 to $20,000 by the time they graduate(2004)

This is the insanity, a 4 year degree will not earn them enough money to even pay back their loans so we see more and more people going back for 6-8 even 10 year degrees. Like the 2 year degree of years past, in another decade educators will tell us a 4 year degree is once again no good. When will it stop! When will the lies stops

For some students, getting accepted to a university is only the first in an uphill battle toward a degree. Persevering long enough to graduate can be just as challenging.Data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed in 2000 that one in three Americans drops out of college. This is an increase from the 1960s when one in five discontinued his or her studies. Some studies indicate that a considerable proportion of college dropouts come from low-income families. The U.S. Department of Education found that 41% of low-income students enrolled in a four-year institution managed to graduate within five years. For higher income students, this jumps to 66%. Of the low income students that did not return, 47% left in good academic standing.(2000)

So, possibly it is culture shock and not the actual money? Maybe these people did not function well in this micro-society that is created on campus. The sex, the STDs and the poorly dressed young men and women cause many a brain to dream and wonder. Maybe these numbers(above) are more in line with who should actually be in college and who should not - App 50%. I would ad that maybe, just maybe 50% of America children learn enough in grades 1-12 that they can pass in college. So again, I turn it back to the educators, do a better job in the first 12 and students will not need another 4-6-8 of college - 2 will do!
