Just Trading Places Who would think that a Sunday Evening movie would further explain the state of our nation? Who would have thought that a simple comedy would help us to understand the plain and simple truth about politics? No the movie I speak of is not " Wag the Dog" or " American President' although both do a good job of explaining how politics works while we go on ignoring the irony. No, the movie I spek of is the Eddie Murphy comedy " Trading Places". It's a rather simple plot - In and attempt to prove a point, two rich men replace a white man with a black man. Of course in the end the plot comes back to haunt them! Sound familiar? Included in this plot to prove a point are stocks, bonds, Wall Street and investments. They are combined with frauds, manipulation and illegal activities that include crop reports, illegal gains and orange juice futures. For our current puprose we must use mortagages, mortagages profits and investment brokers. It does not take much imagination to see just how the two fit hand in hand. If we change the names, change the banks - we see exactly how our elected officials have used the same comical scam to rob you and I of another trillion dollars! Strangely enough, in real life and in this comedy no one ever seems to go to jail? No one ever looses their money except you and I and they seldom even loose their jobs. If they do, then they are simply hired by the incoming black man who takes the white man's place. Where is the FBI? Where is the CIA? Where is the FDIC or Federal Banking Regulators? Oh, they were excused as being wrong 10 years ago by more ricj white men? Day Traders, Hedge Funders, Short Takers have manipulated billions out of the stock markets and our elected officials collect on those funds for decades. These are not traditional investors, they are high stakes gamblers who steal from you and I and pass the profits on to elected power brokers who can keep up with the perpetual lies and scams. In Trading Places we see the humor in the con, we see the slap stick comedy in the pain and suffering but in real life when people lose their life savings it is not very funny. In the movie it is funny, in real life it is scarey that any one group of people could have so much power that they steal and never get caught. As for the black man replacing the white man - that must be Part II of this adventure! As the real movies closes we see them rest on a beach eating lobster at OUR expence! I sincerely believe that is what the next 4 years will offer: more people resting on the beach eating lobster while you and I lick our ever festering wounds! |
