Blog Entry 2 of 181 Everyone Has an Opinion; These are mine
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, everyone does not have a right to their own set of facts. The lie of political correctness, the motive of a relative society is to confuse people into mistaking wrong for right. There are biblical absolutes and I try my best to adhere to these principles and prcepts. Do I make mistakes YES. Do I get confused YES. But I never mistake dishonesty for honesty and I know a lie when I tell it. So, that all said, these are my opinions as I see them.

On the High Heels of Another of Ann's Work
Contributed by: Charles Paul Stephens   on 6/2/2007

On the heals of another story by Ann Work of TRN(6/1/07) we are offered
a great editorial by Besty Hart via the TRN. Besty, an author, sights some
pretty subtantial facts about higher education through David Briggs. I will
not go into deep detail but basicly the commercialized "industry"
of higher education has done everthing within it's power to lure young
people to the halls of higher learning. Hart concludes with the point that
I feel is totally missed by parents and teachers, both; "take a deep breath
and focus more on building children of character." America has lost it's
charater. We have justfied failure, we have excused rage and we
have diagnosed abuse to the point that men are no longer men
much less head of the household. Letting everyone win and
no one lose for fear of hurting their feels is pure psyco-babble.
As for Ann Work, her second piece offered more "meat" to chew
on than the first. However, I do not agree with everything they
propose. We already abandon our children to the ideas of lib
teachers way too early now. A child should be with it's parents
during the development years not with folks who do not share
their valuse and beliefs. School has failed to produce any "real"
results in my opinion. The ethnic drop-out rate is higher than
ever at 47.9%(Heritiage Foundation & Fox News) Teeen-age
STDs is up 23% and Teen-age pregnecy it once again growing.
With the resent happenings in Boulder, Vermont and other places
involving teenage sex and drugs, how can anyone see anything
but failure on the part of government involved education. I have
no argument with Ann, herself, yet if she is a journalist, I sincerely
believe I would have searched out more facts and an even great
excuse for the failures of education here in our great state. Not to
mention the huge, ever growing, burden that it puts on us, the
tax-payer. I am tired of liberal educators dictating policy on how
to spend billions more in money that we foot the bill for. Educators,
and politicians need to be removed from this process before we
end up paying the grad's salaries until they find that job they
studied so hard for. Which in many cases .........is never.

I have no regrets about our decisions back then.

Charles, I and my wife home schooled our first two kiddos for a few years before putting them into private, Christian schools, and after a time into the public schools. Back in those days, to do so carried a great deal of social stigma.

Charles, I agree about competition of our schools. This has been going on a long time in many ways. If you explore the history of the private school movement, you'll much of it. I do like the idea of competition among our American public schools as well, and I think that is what is basically behind the idea of magnet schools now. Could it get even more competitive? Probably. Seems today a parent has just about any option, be it in our public schools, or among the myriad private schools, or homeschooling. Today, I am happy that folks can legally pursue the educational avenues, not open for very many years. If you look at the history of the home school movement, then you find a great deal of trouble for those folks early on. I'm glad they fought hard for those rights, and have succeeded.

Charles, I guess if I were actually educated then I'd still not have to struggle through life, eh? I figure an educated fella would be one who'd be smarter on how to make a living.

Charles, you posted, "...is fundamentally stupid in my opinion yet you educated types do it all the time." Frankly, I do not consider myself 'educated'. I did put myself through college after having never graduating high school. I have been reading everything I could get my hands on since I was in grade school, thanks to a few grade school teachers who help mold my natural curiosity about the world. They were teachers who asked a lot of questions. I'm not sure what you are referring to here.

Charles, yes I agree that there is a wide diversity among Christians on the matter of spirituality and organized religion, and surely this gets at the heart of why so many current day Christians will not align themselves with any form of organized religion.

Charles, I'm all for EVERYONE getting to have a voice. I think you are too. I also think you have hit more than one nail on the head with these posts. Hopefully we are not having so much of a debate, as an enlightening conversation for both of us.

Last on this issue is the idea that we need competition in our schools, I sincerely believe this is what America needs. Tentured Teachers, Teacher Unions and other lobbiest type groups are perfectly fine with the current templet, there is no accountabilty. No one is held responsible for the failure of a class, a group or even a single student. The parents blame the schools and the schools blame the government. It is time that a change takes place where someone in this silly cycle is held liable. Who, the tax payer should decide who because we pay the bills. Like any place with exceptional customer service, we should not have problems getting access to those who are the problem and weed them out without fears of law suit. Yet, this has been made impossible.
