King Soloman knew it, Ecclesiastes 1:2 & 14 (NIV)
2 "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.............." 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless" Albert Einstein knew it: In the temple of science are many mansions, and various indeed are they that dwell therein and the motives that have led them thither. Of course I knew; I wrote an opinion a year ago in the AGN that sent WTAM & Panhandle 20 into panic mode(ie: Cost of Higher Education.....). This idea thatN.Texas will not succeed unless we have a huge growth in higher education is a slap in the face too American History & ingenuity. Americans have done quite well without an ultra-liberal education system. Although many N. Texas farmers and rancher support higher education, they themselves survived two world wars, a depression and a Carter without it. When war was declared on illiteracy it didn't mean we all needed a 4-8 year degrees. It meant that more Americas should be able to read and write. We have more educated people today, yet, like the war on poverty, uneducated, illiteracy and unemployment still exist. If any place should have been a utopia of higher education, liberal arts and employment, it should have been New Orleans prior to Katrina. Instead, we saw the total affect of over-educated engineers, irresponsible government officials and Democrat control. Folks, I'm not against higher education . I will agree that we do need more nurses, doctors and vital people(not lawyers or judges). To say that a Liberal Degree in General Education or Cheerleading does that, is just plain silly. People who attend college need to have a specific(not general) goal or career which includes the research for that career. Spending millions in tax money, wasting years wondering around campus just to be manager of a McDonald's or Starbucks seems just a bit uneducated to me. Granted, my degree is not complete and I am not a rocket scientist but I am a thinker, meaning that unlike some I have just a bit of real common sense. Does any one else believe that a student should have a much greater success in high school than "below average" before being allowed to use our tax dollars to enter into even more learning. America assumed the shame of illiteracy long enough. If, a person doesn't want elementary education why should we pay for them to drop out at higher education. America has been brainwashed by the politically correct crowd into believing that people " deserve " something just because they are Spanish, Asian, Black or poor. America has never before stretched our freedoms so far that it equates to "deserve " until the equal rights era. Still, there are two important spiritual principles that come before " getting and having"; they are " working and earning ". Without the first it is hard to appreciate the latter. People need to fully realize the state our liberal education is in. Then need to understand that most support wealth reallacation or socialism. America was not founded that way nor will it survive under those circumstances. People must take agood hard look at what higher education is really doing to our America values and beliefs. Then if your child still wants an education send them to a chistian school.
