At Wild Bird rescue we have been getting doves for a couple of months. Doves have a very long breeding season. However, we don't mark the beginning of "baby bird season" until the first songbird babies come in. Doves are easier and can be fed less often, so it is possible to come and go fairly easily. However, once the first songbird baby comes in, there is no rest. Every 15 - 20 minutes throughout the day, they have to be fed, so once you're here, you're here.
This week saw the first of what is usually several hundred songbird babies make their way to Wild Bird Rescue. Three baby robins. Although you cannot see it in this picture, you can tell baby robins by their punk rock doo's. We also received some other little birds this week, to include some baby great horned owls. So baby bird season has officially begun and will last until the fall.
