Today I was taking a short birding walk before heading over to Wild Bird Rescue to help Bob. A favorite walk is the Chat Trail at Lake Wichita.

Since it is summer and all of the foliage is grown out (even more so due to all of the rain), I wasn't expecting to see a lot, but you just never know.

As I was walking back to the truck, I heard an unusual song. I know most of the songs of the birds here in the summer, and this wasn't one of them. So I followed the sound and found the bird singing. And the bird I heard and saw isn't here in the summer time. They are here in the winter. However, a favorite saying among birders is that the birds don't read field guides.

It was a Spotted Towhee, which is a very pretty bird with a nice song. I am going back there in the morning with a camera.
